Cornafean Notes 21-7-03

August Weekend Golf Classic

The annual Cornafean GAA Golf Classic will be held on Saturday 2nd August (Bank Holiday weekend) in Cornafean Golf Course. This has been a very popular event in recent years and already there has been great interest in this year's Classic.

The proceeds of the Golf Classic will be in aid of the new sports hall development at the club grounds in Cornafean, which is currently in the course of construction.  The organisers are hoping from a great response from individuals, businesses and companies, who are being invited to enter a team or contribute sponsorship towards the event.

The cost per team of four is €60 to include light refreshments. Attractive prizes will be on offer to the winning teams. A Time Sheet will be in operation on the day and teams may be entered by telephone to Dominic King, Drumcrow,  (049 4337415) / (087 269 6918) or to Padraig Cosgrove, Corlismore  (049 4337094)

Championship Defeat

Last Sunday evening the Cornafean footballers took on Laragh United in Round 2 of this year’s Intermediate Championship at the Killygarry venue. Unfortunately, the local side’s frustrating season continued as the Laragh men recorded a decisive victory. Cornafean now face the formidable challenge of last year’s Championship finalists Denn in their final game in the first round series of games.

 Well Done Catherina

Congratulations to Catherina McKiernan who recorded an impressive victory last Sunday in the Adidas Irish Runner Five Mile Challenge in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. Catherina produced a commanding run to finish eleven seconds clear of last year’s winner Pauline Curley, and in doing so continued the impressive form that she has displayed since returning to competitive action a number of months ago.
