Cornafean - The 2000 Cavan Junior Champions
Pauric Smith Age 30 Height 5 11" Weight 14 st Occupation Builder Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Under-18 league, Division 3 and 3A leagues
Pauric has played in goals for Cornafean since under-14 grade. A highly dependable goalie with a strong and accurate kick-out. Also a great man to pull off a vital save, often at a crucial stage in a game. His father Seamus won a Championship medal with the Reds in 1956.
Oliver Gormley Age 38 Height 5 10" Weight 13 st Occupation

A great servant of the club, on and off the field, for many years. In 1989, Oliver played an inspirational role as captain of the Cornafean team which won the Division 3 League title, earning the club promotion to Division 2 after a long spell in junior ranks.
Liam Young, Age 31 Height 5 8" Weight 11 st Occupation Accountant Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Minor league, Division 3 and 3A leagues. Former County minor player.
Liam has been a regular in the Cornafean defence for more than ten years and in that time has rarely put a foot wrong. A highly intelligent player with a good ability to read a game. Grandson of the great Willie Young, who won All Ireland medals as a goalkeeper with Cavan in 1933 and 1935.
Michael McGibney Age 28 Height 5 10 Weight 12 st Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Division 3 and 3A leagues.
Michael has been Assistant Treasurer of the club since the mid-1990's. A very hard worker for the club, off the field and on. Well known for his work in Scor, particularly in Novelty Acts . He is also a very popular entertainer with a popular repertiore of comic recitations.
Rory McSeain, Age 30 Height 6 1 Weight 14 st Occupation Construction Worker Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Minor league, Division 3 and 3A leagues
A tough, determined player, Rory has played in all areas of the field for Cornafean, and made the full-back position his own in 2000. One of three McSeain brothers on the team.
Eamon Gaffney, Age 23 Height 5 10 Weight 12 st Occupation Farmer Medals Won: David Patton Shield with Ballyhaise Agricultural College
Cornafean's saviour in the 2000 Junior Final, by virtue of his dramatic, last-gasp goal, Eamon had already produced a mighty performance in the decider, despite suffering the after-effects of a heavy knock in the first half. He scored two great points in the first half of that game, and his magical late goal was to Cornafean what Seamus Darby's famous goal was to Offaly in the 1982 All Ireland final. A highly versatile player, and one of the stars of the team throughout the 2000 season.
Eamon OReilly, Age 26 Height 5 9 Weight 12 st Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Under 12 championship, Under 16 League, Leinster Colleges Finals
A very tenacious and committed player who can play equally well in defence or attack, Eamon overcame the effects of a serious injury a few years ago to bravely resume his career. His committment and work-rate on the field is probably unequalled in the club. Scored two great long-range points in the first half of the 2000 Championship final.
Brian Doyle Age 31 Height 6 1 Weight 12 ½ st Occupation Teacher Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Minor league, Division 3 and 3A leagues. Divisional League runner-up. 2 All Ireland Medals & 4 Ulster titles in Scor (Quiz); Dublin Colleges Senior Hurling medal; 4 Cavan County Senior Hurling Championship medals and 1 league medal with Mullahoran hurlers.
For years a tireless midfield campaigner for the Reds, Brian suffered a broken leg in our league opener against Arva in March 2000 but made a dramatic recovery to play an influential role in the Championship. The "memory man" of the team, Brian has 2 All Ireland medals in Question Time in Scor, as well as countless other honours in quizzes down through the years. During his playing career, Brian has also been a noted hurler and rugby player.
Ciaran Martin, Age 27 Height 6 Weight 14 st Occupation Contracts Manager Medals Won: Under 12 & Under 16 championship.
A very talented footballer, with wonderful fielding skills, Ciaran's career has unfortunately been hampered by injury for several years. Has produced many inspirational performances for the Reds over the years. The only player from the famed Bruse area on the 2000 team, his brothers Sean and Padraig also served Cornafean with distinction over the years.
Cathal Sheridan, Age 18 Height 6 3 Weight 14 ½ st. Occupation Student Medals Won: All Ireland Championship and League with Mountbellew Agricultural College.
Despite his youth, Cathal has now been playing for three years with the Cornafean seniors. Scorer of a crucial fisted goal against Crosserlough in the early stages of the 2000 Championship.
Ciaran McSeain Age 34 Height 5 10 Weight 12 st. Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Division 3 and 3A leagues
A regular on the Cornafean team since the late '80's, Ciaran is a very determined and committed player, noted for his speed and his goalscoring ability. One of eight full-time farmers on the present panel.
Philip Wilson, Age 30 Height 6 Weight 15 st. Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Under 14 championship, Minor league, Division 3 and 3A leagues.
Centre-half-back on the Cornafean team beaten by Laragh in the 1994 Intermediate Final, Philip returned to action with the Reds this year and played a valuable role in the forward line. A larger than life character, and a favourite with referees throughout the county and beyond.
Val Sheridan Age 16 Height 6 0 Weight 11 Occupation Student Medals Won: Cumann na mBunscoil u-12 Hurling
At only 15 years of age, Val made a huge impression in his first year playing senior football for Cornafean. Scored several important goals for Cornafean during their 2000 campaign, none more so than his mighty goal against Kildallan in the Championship semi-final. Val also featured on the Cavan's victorious Fr. Manning Cup panel in 2000, and played at midfield on the St. Pat's Cavan team which reached the quarter-final of the Rannafast Cup.
Art McSeain Age 25 Height 5 9 Weight 11 st Occupation Publican Medals Won: Leinster Colleges u-16 medal with Moyne Community School Under 12 & U-14 championships, Under 16 League
A prolific scorer, and one of the best scoretakers at present in the county, his tally of 1-39 in six games in the 2000 Junior Championship campaign speaks for itself. Captain of the 2000 Junior Championship winning team. Owns and runs McSeain's pub in Cornafean.
Thanasie Kaldanis Age 21 Height 6 0 Weight 13 st Occupation Forester Medals Won: Minor League
Scored two goals in the opening game of the 2000 Championship against Redhills. A skilful forward and always likely to score a goal.
Brian McCaffrey Age 34 Height 6 1 Weight 13 st Occupation Emergency Medical Technician Medals Won: Leinster Colleges u-16 medal with Moyne Community School, All-Ireland Hospitals League & Championship (1994) Division 3 and 3A leagues
A very committed campaigner for the Reds down through the years. Also an accomplished and very popular traditional musican and entertainer.
Anthony Sheridan Age 25 Height 5 11 Weight 11 st Occupation Environmental Technician
Anthony returned to competitive football in 2000 after a few years away from the action and played important roles in a couple of games during the Championship campaign. Comes from a family with a great tradition of service to football in Cornafean.
Killian Tully Age 25 Height 6 1 Weight 14 ½ st Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Under-12 Championship Under 14 league
A regular on the senior team for the past five years, Killian missed much of the 2000 season due to injury. Can play equally well in attack or in defence.
Brendan Geoghegan Age 24 Height 5 11 Weight 11 st Occupation Electrical Engineer Medals Won: Under-12 Championship
Brendan missed much of the action in 2000 due to injury but still put in a massive commitment throughout the whole year. A skilful and determined player.
Paul Harrington Age 17 Height 5 6 Weight 11 st Occupation Apprentice Medals Won: Junior & Senior Connacht medals with Carrigallen Community School
Last April, Paul had the honour of being captain of the Carrigallen Vocational School team which won the Connacht Vocational Schools Senior C Final, defeating Lough Allen College in the final. One of Cornafean's stars of the future.
Kieran OReilly Age 20 Height 6 0 Weight 13 st Occupation Student Medals Won: Minor Division 1 League
Captain of the Cormore Gaels team that reached the final of the Cavan Under-21 Championship in 2000, Ciaran missed most of the season's action due to injury. A very skilful forward with a bright future ahead of him.
Sean Kilkenny Age 30 Height 6 Weight 12 st Occupation Pricing Analyst Medals Won: Minor League, Division 3
Sean has been on the Cornafean panel for over ten years. A leading member of the club's Division 3A side.
Seamus Doyle Age 37 Height 5 11 Weight 12 st Occupation Farmer Medals Won: Minor League, Division 3 League
The longest-serving player on the current panel, he first played senior football in a red jersey in 1982. Has acted as trainer, coach and selector at variou stages in the past. A very determined and talented player throughout his career, a Championship medal is due reward for his commitment over the years
Neal Tully Age 24 Height 6 2 Weight 11 ½ st. Occupation Sales Representative Medals Won: Under-12 Championship Under-16 League
One of the most popular members of the panel. A dangerous forward, especially for the Junior Team.
Joseph McKiernan Age 21 Height 5 7 Weight 11 st Occupation Labourer Medals Won: School League
An prominent member of the junior team for several years. Also a member of the club's executive committee.
Thomas McKiernan Age 18 Height 5 8 Weight 10 st Occupation Student
The second member of the McKiernan family on the panel, Thomas is a promising prospect for the future. Already has made a big impact for the club's junior side.
Rory Geoghegan Age 16 Height 5 10 Weight 10 st. Occupation Student Medals Won: North Leinster Colleges Finalist
A highly promising player for the future. Also the team's reserve goalkeeper, who kept Pauric Smith on his toes during the 2000 campaign.
